On 22 September in Vienna, as part of the ECSA – European Composer and Songwriter Alliance meetings, the University of Music and Performing Arts hosted a panel exploring what it means to be a film composer today.
Patrick Doyle (Camille Award Winner for Outstanding Contribution), Stefano Mainetti (Camille Awards nominee), Laetitia Pansanel-Garric (Camille Awards nominee), Johan Söderqvist (Camille Awards International Jury Member), together with moderator Sarah Glennane (Screen Composers Guild of Ireland), shared their perspectives on both the creative and professional challenges of navigating today’s film music industry.The conversation also offered an opportunity to look back: what advice would they give their younger selves, knowing what they know today about composing for film and building a career in an ever-changing industry?
