Music and Generative Artificial Intelligence
Stefano Mainetti held a panel on Music and Generative Artificial Intelligence as part of the Rome Film Music Festival. The multi-award-winning composer of Orgoglio, Shooter – Attentato a Praga, Talos – L’ombra del faraone, Silent Trigger, and The Word of Promise, introduced by composer Pivio, President of ACMF – the Italian Association of Film Music Composers, of which Mainetti himself is a member, presented the subject he was soon to discuss — the highly topical and controversial issue of the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in applied music, with all the consequences one can easily imagine. The discussion analyzed both the international and Italian markets, delving into key topics such as “The rise of AI-generated music,” “How machines are learning to compose,” “Tools for producing AI-generated music,” “Copyright issues in AI-generated music,” “Fair Use and Copyright.” The debate ultimately revolved around how to interpret AI rather than oppose it by default, emphasizing the importance of understanding its inner workings and creative processes.
